Aaron Hickey is a fit Brentford full-back again after a 16-month hamstring saga, back from Scotland’s World Cup and in pre-season for 2026–27 on a contract that runs to 2028.
Career
The Glasgow-born defender left Hearts for Bologna, then joined Brentford from Italy in July 2022 for about £14 million. A strong first Premier League season (26 appearances) was followed by an ankle injury, then a hamstring tear in training in October 2023 that, after two operations, kept him out 659 days.
Brentford still extended him to 2028 in January 2025 while he was injured. He missed Euro 2024, returned in time for Scotland’s 2026 World Cup, and RotoWire reported on 1 August 2026 that the club had no fitness doubts as pre-season began.
How they play
A two-footed full-back who can play either flank. When available he gives Brentford a proven Premier League option; the injury file is why minutes have to be managed.
Where they are now
Squawka’s 26 August 2026 Premier League injury tracker did not list him among Brentford’s absentees (Milambo and van den Berg were the two named). Transfermarkt still has him at Brentford through June 2028. Sports Dunia marked him fit after the February–April 2026 hamstring.
