2026 World Cup Final: Spain vs Argentina
European champions against the holders. A generational midfield against the greatest player of his generation. And the day it’s decided is the day War of Soccer kicks off.
The match
- When: Sunday, July 19, 2026 — kickoff 3:00pm ET.
- Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey (the New York New Jersey venue).
- Who: 🇪🇸 Spain vs 🇦🇷 Argentina.
Spain’s road to the final
Spain arrive as reigning European champions and, for many, the best team in the tournament. In the semifinal they delivered a masterclass to beat France 2–0, Mikel Oyarzabal converting an early penalty and Pedro Porro adding a second in the second half. It is Spain’s first World Cup Final since they lifted the trophy in 2010.
Their strength is a midfield widely called the deepest in world football — Ballon d’Or winner Rodri anchoring, Pedri conducting, with Fabián Ruiz, Zubimendi and Dani Olmo in support. Ahead of them, 18-year-old Lamine Yamal bends the game to his will, drawing defenders and freeing space for everyone around him.
Argentina’s road to the final
Argentina are the defending champions, and their run has been pure theatre. They stormed back to beat Egypt 3–2, edged Switzerland 3–1 after extra time — Julián Álvarez striking in the 117th minute — and then beat England 2–1 in the semifinal, Lionel Messi assisting Lautaro Martínez for the winner.
At the centre of it all is Messi. At 39, in what he has described as his final World Cup, he is tied for the tournament’s Golden Boot lead and has extended his all-time record World Cup goal tally. Argentina are chasing something no team has managed since Brazil in 1962: back-to-back World Cups.
The story
Control versus destiny. Spain want to keep the ball for 90 minutes and win it on their terms; Argentina want one moment, one Messi pass, one Lautaro finish. It is the perfect final — and it is exactly the feeling War of Soccer is built to capture: real football, in your browser.
World Cup Final day is War of Soccer day. The instant a champion is crowned in New Jersey, War of Soccer launches — free, realistic 3D football you play in your browser.
