Álex Baena moved from Villarreal to Atlético Madrid on 2 July 2025 on a five-year contract and took the No. 10 shirt, adding a Europa League winner and a Euro 2024 champion to Diego Simeone's attack.
Career
A Villarreal academy graduate, Baena spent 2021–22 on loan at Girona before returning to become a first-team regular, and he was part of Villarreal's 2021 UEFA Europa League-winning squad.
He joined Atlético Madrid on 2 July 2025 on a deal running to 30 June 2030, and scored his first Atlético goal in a 2–0 away win over Real Betis on 27 October 2025.
For Spain he won UEFA Euro 2024 and Olympic gold at Paris 2024; Atlético list him as a versatile left-sided midfielder with dribbling, shooting power and vision.
