Amar Dedić is a Bosnia and Herzegovina right-back who completed a £29.5 million move from Benfica to Newcastle United on 18 August 2026, his 24th birthday, reuniting with head coach Matthias Jaissle.

Career

Born in Zell am See, he came through Red Bull Salzburg and had loan spells at Wolfsberger AC and Marseille before Benfica signed him in 2025. In one Portuguese season he made 25 league appearances and scored once.

Newcastle announced a five-year deal on 18 August 2026. Sky Sports put the fee at £29.5 million; Benfica later confirmed the figures. He takes the No. 37 shirt and was in line for a debut in the Premier League opener against Liverpool.

A right-back who attacks the space ahead of him, he overlaps early and is comfortable on the ball in Jaissle's build-up — the same coach he played under at Liefering and Salzburg.

Where they are now

The transfer closed a week of medicals on Tyneside after he featured for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2026 World Cup. The contract runs to June 2031.
