Andrés Cubas

Andrés Cubas is in his fifth MLS season at Vancouver Whitecaps, where a February 2026 contract extension keeps the Paraguayan international through the 2027–28 season.
Career
He came through Boca Juniors, then moved to France with Nîmes Olympique in 2020 for a reported €3 million from Talleres. Vancouver signed him from Nîmes in April 2022 on a Designated Player deal, for a reported $3 million, and he debuted against Seattle Sounders that June.
He has since become the Whitecaps’ midfield anchor: 127 starts in 136 appearances by the time of the 2026 extension, four Canadian Championship titles, and a 2025 MLS Western Conference Championship. He started 13 of Paraguay’s 18 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers as the country reached the 2026 finals for the first time in 15 years.
How they play
A short, combative holding midfielder who lives in the tackle. He led Vancouver in tackles won in MLS in 2023, 2024 and 2025 (44 last season) and, as of late August 2026, still led the side in tackles won and interceptions while the Whitecaps sat top of the Western Conference.
Where they are now
He was named to the 2026 MLS All-Star roster, his first such selection, alongside teammates Thomas Müller and Sebastian Berhalter. The Whitecaps’ own site still lists him at number 20.

Whitecaps signing2022
A $3 million move from Nîmes in April 2022 made him one of Vancouver’s Designated Players and began a run that has now stretched into a fifth MLS season.
Extension through 2027–282026
On 24 February 2026 the club announced a new deal through the 2027–28 MLS season, after he had started 37 of 41 appearances in 2025 across all competitions.
