Cameron Burgess
Defender · Swansea City
Cameron Burgess is still a Swansea City centre-back, but a ruptured Achilles suffered against Birmingham in the EFL Cup has him facing a significant spell out that BBC Sport says may cover the whole 2026–27 Championship season.
Career
Born in Aberdeen, he moved to Australia at 11, returned to Fulham at 15, then compiled a long Football League CV — Ross County, Cheltenham, Oldham, Bury, Scunthorpe, Salford, Accrington — before joining Ipswich in 2021 and helping them through League One and the Championship into the Premier League.
Swansea signed him on a free on 14 June 2025 on a three-year deal. He played every Championship minute in 2025–26, captained in the League Cup, and scored twice in a 3–2 Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest on 17 September 2025. He also featured for Australia at the 2026 World Cup.
How they play
A 1.94 m left-footed centre-back whose game is aerial duels and positioning. Last season he was the regular partner of captain Ben Cabango; without him Swansea are shopping for another starter.
Where they are now
BBC Sport reported on 13 August 2026 that scans confirmed a ruptured Achilles after he limped off against Birmingham, with surgery and a “significant spell on the sidelines.” A 22 August follow-up said he looks set to miss the entire campaign. He remains on Swansea’s books through June 2028.
