Career
Born in Mannheim, he came through Karlsruhe and Hamburg, then Bayer Leverkusen, before four years at AC Milan. He crossed the city to Inter on a free in 2021 and has since won Serie A and Coppa Italia, converting from a No.10 into a deep-lying taker of penalties and tempo.
A 2023 extension tied him to 2027. Last season was interrupted by six injuries; he still contributed as Inter won the Scudetto and Coppa. Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe continue to circle a possible free exit in 2027.

RotoWire logged the Monza goal and yellow card on 22 August 2026. Goal and Gazzetta both reported in late August that Inter could yet reopen talks on a deal beyond 2027, depending on fitness, even as a free transfer next summer remains the working assumption.
