Lucas Paquetá returned to boyhood club Flamengo from West Ham in January 2026 after being cleared of FA misconduct charges, then started Brazil's first four World Cup matches before a hamstring injury ended his tournament.
Career
Paquetá was cleared in July 2025 of FA misconduct charges that had taken two years to resolve, and moved to Flamengo for £36.5 million in January 2026, signing a contract to December 2030 for personal and family reasons and to secure regular football ahead of the World Cup.
He joined a Flamengo side that had just won the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian league title.

A creative left-sided midfielder who links play between midfield and attack, Paquetá was a foundational figure in Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil midfield, starting all four of the team's matches before his injury and contributing an assist.
Where they are now
Paquetá suffered a confirmed grade-two hamstring strain in Brazil's round-of-32 win over Japan and missed the round-of-16 exit to Norway as a result, with Gabriel Martinelli deputising on the left.
