Martin Ødegaard captains Arsenal after lifting the club’s first Premier League title in 22 years in May 2026, and has already scored in the 2026 Community Shield and the opening 3–0 over Coventry.

Career

Strømsgodset at 15, Real Madrid, loans at Heerenveen, Vitesse and Real Sociedad, then Arsenal on loan in 2021 and permanently that August. He has worn the armband since July 2022.

On 24 May 2026 he lifted the Premier League trophy after a 2–1 win at Crystal Palace. On 16 August he scored the third in a 3–0 Community Shield win over Manchester City; on 21 August he scored again in a 3–0 league win over Coventry (Wikipedia, Telegraph, FotMob).

How they play

A left-footed No.10 who times late runs into the box and plays the killer pass. The Telegraph’s 21 August 2026 column called the Community Shield finish — a pause, then a roll past Donnarumma — the version Arsenal need every week.

Where they are now

Arsenal opened the title defence with that Coventry win. Arteta said after the Shield that Ødegaard had “something he wants to prove” after an injury-hit 2025–26 (VG). Transfermarkt: contract to 30 June 2028.
