SwitzerlandActive

Remo Freuler joined Olympiacos on a free transfer on 17 August 2026 after three seasons as Bologna's midfield constant, including the 2025 Coppa Italia final.

Career

The Ennenda midfielder came through Winterthur and Luzern, then played more than 200 Serie A games for Atalanta before a year at Nottingham Forest. He returned to Italy on 1 September 2023, joining Bologna on loan from Forest with an obligation to buy.

Italian Wikipedia records 98 Bologna league appearances and a start in the 14 May 2025 Coppa Italia final, a 1–0 win over Milan. He left at the end of 2025–26 as a free agent; Corriere di Bologna (19 August 2026) listed him with Castro and Lucumí among the departing 'architrave' after more than 3,000 minutes last season.

How they play

A 1.81 m defensive midfielder who lives on availability. Corriere timed him at 3,108 minutes in 2025–26 despite a broken collarbone in November, and 4,125 the season before. Switzerland have given him 94 caps and 11 goals (Wikipedia, as of 12 July 2026).

Where they are now

English and Italian Wikipedia both list Olympiacos as his club from 17 August 2026, shirt number 19, with no Super League appearances yet when those pages were retrieved on 31 August.

He played at the 2026 World Cup for Switzerland — kicker logged six tournament appearances — then signed in Greece as a free agent after Bologna opted not to renew.
