Alisson Becker

Goalkeeper · Liverpool

BrazilActive

Alisson Becker recovered from a concussion and recurring hamstring issues to start Brazil's 2026 World Cup campaign, which ended in a round-of-16 loss to Norway that is expected to close out his and several teammates' international careers.

Career

Alisson was forced off with a suspected concussion during a March 2026 World Cup qualifier against Colombia after a clash of heads, then battled hamstring issues that kept him out of Liverpool's final Premier League matches and their Champions League tie against PSG.

He hadn't played for Liverpool since a mid-March Champions League win over Galatasaray, but was declared fully fit for Brazil's World Cup squad, and started their run through to a 2-1 round-of-16 defeat to Norway, in which Erling Haaland scored twice.

How they play

Alisson remains one of the sport's most complete goalkeepers — elite shot-stopping combined with distribution good enough to function as an auxiliary outfield passer, a template Liverpool and Brazil both build possession around.

Against Norway he kept the match level in the first half with a series of major saves before Haaland's brace ultimately proved decisive.

Where they are now

At 33, Alisson is among a group of senior Brazil players — including Casemiro, Danilo, Marquinhos and Neymar — expected to retire from the national team following the Norway defeat, marking a generational turnover for the Selecao.

He said afterward that Brazil have 'no regrets' despite the World Cup failure, pointing to the team's performances even in defeat.
