Assan Ouédraogo is working back from a shoulder capsule injury in preseason, with RB Leipzig targeting a mid-September return for the Germany midfielder.
Career
Born in Mülheim to Burkinabè parents, he joined Schalke’s academy in 2014 and scored on his 2. Bundesliga debut against Hamburg in July 2023. Leipzig signed him on 13 June 2024 for a reported €10 million on a five-year contract, beating Bayern Munich after he said young players developed faster in Leipzig.
His first Leipzig goal came on 20 September 2025 in a 3–1 win over Köln. Wikipedia and FotMob have four Bundesliga goals in 2025–26. He made the Germany senior side in November 2025 and was a late addition to the 2026 World Cup squad.

A 1.91 m central or attacking midfielder with a long stride and a shot from range — Bild and club voices compared his 2025–26 form to the leap Leipzig wanted when they signed him. Transfermarkt lists him as Leipzig’s number 8, contracted to June 2029.
Where they are now
He hurt the right shoulder in an early-August training camp. Club and player chose conservative treatment rather than surgery. Bild reported on 27 August that he was doing individual rehab with Marcel Abanoz, still without the ball, with a realistic return around mid-September — so he misses the Bundesliga opener.
