Auston Trusty is Celtic’s starting centre-back in Martin O’Neill’s 2026–27 side and scored his first United States World Cup goal against Türkiye on 25 June.
Career
A Philadelphia Union homegrown, he played every MLS minute in 2018, was traded to Colorado in 2019, then signed for Arsenal in January 2022. Arsenal immediately left him at Colorado, then loaned him to Birmingham City for 2022–23, where he played 44 games, scored four, and won the supporters’ Player of the Season. Sheffield United signed him in August 2023 for a Premier League season.
Celtic paid for a five-year deal on 30 August 2024, reuniting him with Cameron Carter-Vickers. He scored his first Celtic goal on 4 January 2025 against St Mirren. A plantar fascia tear in August 2025 kept him out under Brendan Rodgers; O’Neill restored him after taking interim charge in October, and he started 2026–27 alongside Carter-Vickers.
How they play
A 6 ft 3 in left-sided centre-back who defends the box and steps into midfield. Trusty himself described the right-side partnership with Nygren in last season’s Europa League; this August he was ever-present in Celtic’s first four matches of the new campaign.
Where they are now
He travelled to Austria for the LASK second leg on 24 August despite missing morning training with a stomach upset. O’Neill said he hoped to use him. He is listed as Celtic’s number 6.
