Musiala broke his left leg and dislocated his ankle in a violent collision with then-PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during Bayern's Club World Cup quarterfinal defeat in July 2025 — an injury that sidelined him for 32 games.

After a lengthy rehabilitation he returned to Bayern's senior squad in early 2026 and, despite lingering tendon pain in the same ankle, recovered in time to be a key contributor for Germany at the World Cup that summer.

A technical, close-control attacking midfielder who operates between the lines rather than out wide, using tight dribbling in small spaces to beat pressure that would force a less agile player to give the ball up.

Musiala featured in all four of Germany's matches at the 2026 World Cup, but the campaign ended in the round of 32 on penalties against Paraguay — a disappointing exit for a squad built partly around his recovery.

After the tournament he underwent a scheduled, minor operation to remove a metal plate from his foot — a planned continuation of his ankle recovery rather than a new injury — with Bayern confirming he remained on track for the season opener against Borussia Dortmund on August 22.
